To support the busy PR team with the creation and delivery of PR of projects/campaigns across DRPG's multiple divisions and delivery capabilities. Supporting with social media deliver to compliment the PR activity and helping to promote the brand.Apprenticeship Training

Apprenticeship Training Overview

As a Public Relations Apprentice you will follow a Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in PR, which is a nationally recognised qualification route. This will involve “on the job” training, visits from an Assessor to the workplace, an internal Mentor to provide ongoing guidance, online learning and creating a portfolio of evidence.The apprentice will be working towards an end-point-assessment which will determine if he/she has the knowledge, skills, and behaviours listed in the PR & Communications Assistant Standard.You will develop a wide understanding of Public Relations and the impact it has on businesses.

Principle duties

The PR Apprentice will be required to undertake (but not be restricted to) the following activities as part of their role.
  • Writing – Writing for business communications, communicating effectively with PR, writing for the media (this could include articles, news releases, blogs, and case studies).
  • Social media – Understanding when and which social media channel is appropriate and how it can be incorporated into a PR campaign. Using social media in a strategic and effective way for DRPG.
  • Media liaison – Understanding how the media operates, dealing with day to day inquiries from the media, pitching stories and/or products to the media, building relationships with the media (i.e. journalists), creating media lists, monitoring press clippings, sending/receiving press selection products.
  • Deliver PR campaigns – Supporting the team in creating new campaigns, working to deliver astrategy for DRPG.
  • Evaluate PR campaigns – Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of PR campaigns andmeasuring their impact.
  • Presentation – Planning, structuring and delivering presentations internally and externally.
  • Research & data analysis – Conducting research for the team and/or clients and reporting keydetails.
  • Events – Planning, organising and co-coordinating events, meeting the objectives of the brief.Events sponsored by DRPG or internal events.
  • Budgets – taking charge of small finance processes related to PR activity.
  • Time management - Planning, organising and prioritising your workload to ensure deadlines andobjectives for both work activities and apprenticeship training are met.
  • Diary management – Ensuring email/online diaries are kept up to date.
  • Meetings – Arranging internal and external meetings, ensuring rooms are suitable and attendeesneeds are catered for.
  • Career development - Taking responsibility for personal learning and professional development.
  • Professional relationships – Developing professional relationships with colleagues andstakeholders, effective listening and verbal/written communication.
  • Communicating with supervisors/mentor - Ensuring they are aware of work in progress and arebriefed when any problems arise.
  • Team building - Working with teams to achieve goals and promote a motivated work environment.
  • Networking - Building a professional network of other PR professionals whilst maintaininga professional image.
  • Travel between the agency's London, Windsor, Midlands and Leeds offices, as well as thewider UK, Europe and internationally will be required to fulfil DRPG's commitments.
  • Follow company and training provider procedures at all times.
  • Produce high quality work with attention to detail.
  • Maintain a positive company and personal image.
  • You may be required to work flexible hours to meet the needs of clients.


  • Some experience in a Marketing or PR environment is ideal.

Skills / characteristics

  • Excellent written English is vital to the role.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft office, particularly Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously prioritising by deadline.
  • Self-starter with ability to take the initiative in a busy working environment.
  • Be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Willing to work outside normal office hours when required.
  • A good understanding of social media is highly desirable.
  • A positive attitude towards all tasks.
  • Organised with a true desire and eye for detail.
  • Quick to understand a brief and what it needs to achieve.
  • Positive attitude towards challenging situations and multi-tasking.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work individually and as part of a wider team.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and develop existing ones.
  • Must be committed to making 'anything possible' with a 'can do' attitude.

Other requirements

  • Able to travel throughout the UK and overseas.
  • Driving licence.

Data Security

At all times you must work within the guidelines set out in the DRPG’s Information Security Policy and your Employee Confidentiality Agreement. Failure to do so may be treated as gross misconduct.

Health & Safety

At all times you must work within the guidelines set out in DRPG’s Health & Safety Policy and Employee Manual.

Further notes

The role will be based primarily in our Worcestershire head office and will require regular travel to other office locations. You will be expected to work flexibly and undertake other related commercial duties both in the UK and overseas as the company may from time to time reasonably require.
