Purpose

The Business Development Manager, Events in our new Cologne base will play a key role in the international expansion of our business. With a clear focus on the growth of our events and conference services in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), through new acquisition of clients for individual projects as well as long term contracts, the role will be pivotal in introducing and establishing our brand in this region.

Principle duties

  • The acquisition of new clients, i.e. companies and organisations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and the sale of world-class corporate engagement events, conferences and meetings
  • Market research and identification of the right target groups / organisations for DRPG in DACH and creation of a target list
  • Working with DRPG Marketing to develop our proposition and marketing plan for the DACH region
  • Create and implement a sales strategy for the DACH region in line with annual financial targets
  • Management of CRM database for pipeline progression and forecasting
  • Building and supporting existing DRPG clients and solidification of long-term business relationships
  • Close co-operation with the DRPG LIVE team in our HQ in the UK and regular feedback on events trends and innovation in the DACH region
  • Understanding of opportunities to upsell other DRPG services
  • Joining up the key functions of event experience, customer satisfaction and sales & marketing
  • Budgeting and financial negotiations with clients
  • Contract management, including drafting, negotiations and implementation
  • Written proposals that will inspire the client and showcase our capabilities, creative services and operational excellence
  • Representing DRPG at industry events, e.g. IMEX Frankfurt
  • Close co-operation with DRPG’s Global Development Director and Business Development Director
  • CPD – keep up to date with new and emerging trends/best practice, ensuring continuous innovation

Experience

  • Extensive experience in b2b sales in corporate events and conferences in DACH, and a solid understanding of expectations and requirements of clients in this region
  • Ideally experience in the conception, organisation and execution of corporate events (e.g. meetings, conferences, employee engagement events, brand experiences, exhibitions)
  • Solid understanding of internal communications and its challenges
  • Fundamental editorial capabilities (good, written German and English)
  • Understanding of the potential of digital and social media as part of the sales & marketing process
  • Solid knowledge of Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Intercultural competencies an advantage

  • Native German speaker with additional business level English (our company language)
  • Preparedness to work evenings and weekends when required
  • Degree level qualification or apprenticeship in e.g. economics, marketing, events

Other requirements

  • General preparedness to travel
  • Full driving license

Further notes

The role will be based primarily in our Cologne office in Germany and will require regular travel to other office locations. Flexible working hours and locations are offered by the company. However, as this is a new role for the group, flexibility will be limited until the role is embedded and stabilised. You will be expected to undertake other related commercial duties both in Germany and overseas as the company may from time to time reasonably require.
