Technical Team Lead (PHP)

Your reason for being here…

Everyone has a purpose here at DRPG and yours is central in our cross-functional teams. You’re here to keep our projects running on time and to an incredibly high standard.

The way you roll…

You’re a strong team player who really cares about the people you work with. That’s part of what makes you such a great leader. You’ve already had experience leading a technical team and are proud of how you’ve mentored individuals and made the right calls, helping your team succeed.

Thinking on your feet comes naturally and you always look for creative solutions to any problem that comes your way. You stay calm, even under pressure, and put that to good use in both how you manage people and your own technical projects. You take ownership of projects from discovery
through to launch and stay organised for the whole journey.

You’re a proven senior engineer, but you’re not afraid to ask for help if you need it. Most importantly, you know how to encourage contributions from your team and get the very best out of them.

How you make it all possible…

  • Leading your project team through the delivery of multiple projects
  • Guiding teams technically, and helping them to design solutions that work well
  • Ensuring the team works to internal standards and setting the technical bar
  • Acting as a mentor and coach for software engineers in the team, helping them to improve as developers
  • Playing a part in understanding client requirements, then working with them to design a solution
  • Dealing with obstructions and blockers preventing implementation within the production team
  • Attending briefings and debriefings when necessary

What’s in your toolbox…

  •  Heaps of technical understanding, including PHP 7 & 8, Laravel (though experience with other PHP frameworks also acceptable), Git/version control and CI, plus MySql, RDBMB and NoSql persistence stores
  • Familiarity with object-oriented design, design patterns and best practices
  • Knowledge of secure design and standards
  • Debugging and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of automated testing and TDD, as well as HTTP and Web Services
  • Ability to work in a team and on your own
  • A real ‘can do’ attitude that makes anything possible

Get to know us…

We’re one of the most unexpectedly all-round capable communications agencies that’s been on the go for years – ever since our head honcho set up shop in a shed back in 1980, in fact. Since then, we’ve made it our mission to make anything possible for our many and varied clients, putting our creative flair into delivering strategic communication campaigns, digital solutions, film and videos, events, exhibitions, and a whole lot more in between. We’ve grown a lot, but we’ve kept everything that made us great, back from the very day we first started out. Our global HQ and
largest studios are smack bang in the middle of the UK and well worth a visit to see for yourself!

Hang on, there’s more…

The role will be based primarily in our Hartlebury, Manchester or London offices, but there will be times when you’ll need to work from our other places and undertake other related commercial duties both in the UK and overseas. Flexibility is key! We’re a friendly team. We really, really welcome anyone who wants to become part of a brilliant company. If you’re passionate with a cracking drive to deliver on our ‘anything’s possible’ mindset, we’d love to hear from you!
