Commonwealth Games Volunteer Orientation Broadcast

Sport Hybrid Broadcast Uniform Reveal
The Commonwealth Games 2022 Orientation Training Event was about lighting a spark as it was going through logistics. With thousands of volunteers tuning in from home, the broadcast was designed to inform, energise, and celebrate every individual involved. Set in our Studio 212 headquarters with a sustainable set and a TV-style format, the show featured sporting legends and a live uniform reveal that brought the Games to life.

INSIGHT

The event needed to inform, inspire and engage all attendees, generating excitement for the Games and celebrating the wonderful volunteers. A key moment was the official launch of the games uniform – a nail-biting, and incredibly exciting, moment!

SOLUTION

Experts from across our Events, Creative, Design, Video and Motion Graphics teams created a show with a real bang. We took to our fantastic Studio 212 venue and built a custom, sustainable set that met all CWG guidelines and invited in some extraordinary presenters.

Athlete Colin Jackson, British track cyclist Sir Chris Hoy, British swimmer Ellie Simmonds, BBC television presenter Karthi Gnanasegaram and BBC journalist Rebecca Wood hosted in the style of a Saturday-night television programme. Volunteers were free to watch from their sofas, as the event was primarily delivered as a high-quality broadcast, with a fully functioning streaming portal where users could engage with presenters throughout the broadcast. And boy, did they engage!

To make sure that excitement was felt both in the room and through the broadcast, we gave the big reveal of the uniform its own moment. Real volunteers stepped up to show off their Games uniforms and we shared a dynamic video to reveal where the design had sprung from.

IMPACT

The Orientation Training Event set the tone for the Games, reaching over 14,000 volunteers with a broadcast that felt more like prime-time TV than training. Engagement soared as volunteers interacted live with presenters, and the uniform reveal created a real buzz, building pride, connection, and momentum ahead of Birmingham 2022.
