Ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, The Boxer was created to spotlight the raw commitment and power of local Birmingham athlete Delicious Orie (DJ) in the lead-up to the event.

BRIEF

With an open brief that allowed the creative team to truly push the boundaries, the film captures DJ’s intense dedication, building excitement for the Games and inspiring viewers to embrace their own journey of perseverance.

CHALLENGE

The production had one clear challenge: time. DJ’s schedule was packed, with just one evening and the following morning available before he headed to Tokyo for the Olympics.

SOLUTION

Filmed across multiple locations in Birmingham, the team worked efficiently, making every minute count. Close collaboration with DJ’s management and the Commonwealth Games brand team ensured the film stayed true to the partnership, while the team’s creativity flourished in the tight timeline.

The film’s narrative reflects DJ’s progression, using pacing and sound to build tension and emphasise his unwavering determination. The tempo escalates, mirroring his physical and mental exertion, before decelerating to allow the audience a moment to reflect.
